Mum's the word My husband saw a cardiologist regularly for several years, and I usually
accompanied him on visits. As a former cardiac nurse, I couldn't resist
asking questions and offering suggestions about his care.
Now my husband is under the care of an oncologist, who recently referred
him back to the cardiologist to determine if his heart is strong enough
to tolerate the cardiotoxic drugs that are part of the chemotherapy regimen.
On a recent visit, the cardiologist took me aside and whispered, "Let
that doctor out there do what he wants." We both laughed. I knew exactly
what he meant.
