A NEW STUDY FINDS that "compassion fatigue" among nurses and other healthcare workers can affect the way they interact with patients, patients'
families, other healthcare workers, and their own families. The analysis, by researchers from the Indiana University School
of Medicine and Regenstrief Institute in Indianapolis, appeared in the March issue of the Journal of Health Psychology. It was based on a review of 57 studies to identify the prevalence of compassion fatigue among cancer-care providers, and
calls for better mechanisms for helping healthcare providers deal with it.
