Pheochromocytomas—catecholamine-secreting tumors of the adrenal medulla—can also arise in other areas of the body, accompanied by hypertension in 90% of cases. If not recognized early on and treated appropriately, these tumors can cause irreversible and even fatal cardiovascular and cerebrovascular complications.
