Strokes raise risk of hip, femur fractures

The journal Stroke reported that patients who had suffered recent strokes ran double the risk of fracturing their hips or femurs. Fall prevention programs and monitoring/medication of bone density may counteract this trend. |

Stethoscopes shown to retain and breed pathogens

Microbiologists determined that the stethoscopes of both bedside and nonmedical personnel can harbor and breed potentially pathogenic bacteria. Bedside nurses were shown to clean their stethoscopes less frequently than nonmedical personnel, but bacteria survived even regular cleaning efforts. |
